The first thing to plan for is your first impression. Whether it's winning a job or a date, a key to success is making the other person comfortable. Comfort starts with your appearance. Yet there are subtle ways to be distinct. With the right use of color, patterns, and accessories one can command attention without saying a word. Color.

Colors bring about an emotional response in each of us. They stimulate emotions and feelings subconsciously. There are several factors to consider when wearing color: the color of your hair, your skin tone, and your eye colors are some of the most important ones. When incorporating color also consider what some colors symbolize. It is no surprise that the business color blue symbolizes trust, loyalty, and wisdom. 

Patterns.

Like color, patterns must match the rest of the outfit, suit the occasion and be flattering on you. Patterns not only set you apart aesthetically, but many times they add texture to your outfit.  

Accessories. 

Even in the most conservative environments accessories are your gateway to individuality. When used correctly these pieces will be conversations starters. Yes, ties and socks are the standard. Beyond that consider infusing your wardrobe with pocket squares, tie bars, and the less popular collar bars. In addition, frames can also be used as a practical form of self-expression. Remember the purpose of accessories are to pull everything together unless your outfit is muted make sure they don't speak to loud.

A Man About Style Celebrates Seattle Gents 1 year

Paris, London, and New York the fashion capitals of the world. Seattle may have its work cut out for it, but brands are noticing the tastemakers. Like many style journeys, men are behind. Noticing a void Antonio Smith and Avi Soor created a platform for the male creatives of the city.   

The Seattle Gents is a menswear collective that looks to highlight Seattle culture through various forms of media. From podcasts to models this group has it all. In celebration of a year's worth of work. The Seattle Gents hosted an event for entrepreneurs, brands, and creatives. As you enjoy the highlights of the night, know this is only the begging for this group gentlemen.

Breaking bread has always been more than just eating. It implies that the event has fostered memories or has created an event that has brought unlikely parties together. A Man About Style champions the spirits of those who defy the status quo and dare to be diverse. When Uphoria™ approached us to be a part of their story, we graciously accepted the opportunity as we value brands that unite like families instead of those “dog eat dog” monoliths that dominate much of the business culture. Uphoria has a diverse group of founders and product line that ranges from dapper accessories to edgy streetwear pieces.

We were asked to host their premier launch party at the Seattle Art Museum. This room was teeming with business entrepreneurs, fashion influencers, and a few press agencies. The infamous Dj Peg set the mood that night, with a mix of soul sample driven records. Our show began with the ear-piercing horns of Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got.” Richard Meharry walked down the steps of the art museum - bringing his usual high energy - while donning a chambray tux for the occasion. His co-host (Endurance Nweke, curator of cool) soon followed with Dave East’s “Maneuver” playing in the background. After this “Shout Out Ma”  was played for our kind sponsors: 360 vodka, Dry Sparkling, and SlusaTV.

This break-in program provided our VIP’s with catered hors d’oeuvres as each patron networked and was greeted individually by our uptempo hosts. After some time, Richard introduced the live performer of the night: James Lion. Mr. Lion captivated the crowd with his stage presence and heartfelt lyrics. He graciously set the stage for Toney Shellman, the guest of honor. Toney Shellman - for those who don’t know - is recognized by Black Enterprise, has been honored by recording artist Ne-Yo, and is the co-founder of several cultural brands. Before he conveyed his excitement and blessed our event, he brought out his special guest: Future of the Prince Ovos own DJ. Future did not perform but added to the excitement.
