Men Try Stripping For The First Time | Cut

"She was no stripper with a heart of gold, that was for sure. A heart of steel, more like."

― Shannon Celebi, The Lion Lies Down with the Lamb

When was the last time you took a walk in someone's shoes? Have you ever tried your hand at a different trade to see the other side? Well, I can officially say that I have. In this blog, we take a step away from the AMAS persona, put down the style guide, and pick up a G-String.

Now before you step out, stay with me for a second. I was approached by the good people at CUT with an offer to try stripping for the first time and couldn't pass it up. I've always wanted to know what it was like to entertain someone with your body instead of telling the story with your style/clothing.

As I spoke with and learned more about the ladies that utilize this work as a profession, I quickly saw how skillful and talented they are. It isn't always easy making money shaking your tail feather, as agility and seduction don't always come easy to those of us working a 9-5.

Beyond getting to know the ladies and putting on a show, here are some pros and cons I am happy to share from my day on the pole:

PROS - it's a good exercise -

Anything that puts you out of your comfort zone and broadens your worldview is usually a good thing. I have to say I have a newfound respect for those who are bold enough to dance for cash, and I was surprised how much upper body and lower body strength is needed to "keep yourself lifted."

Cons - being put on a pedestal - knowing sex work is just a business at the end of the day, even when lucrative, may leave you feeling isolated. I think that's awfully tough. I like connecting with my friends, family, and coworkers. Sometimes you are in one world on that stage and detached from your everyday life. It isn't for the faint of heart.

Overall, this experience was pretty amazing. I would recommend trying to strip at least once in your life; you may find a part of yourself out there on stage. Lastly, I look forward to doing more CUT videos in the future. Be sure to drop in and show some love via YouTube.

Probably?

She wants a
"Lost in Translation"
kinda feeling -
A fresh situation
unknown and appealing
One where she
can be free
with me
in five minutes of a
song or
whatever
But Forever?
Probably?
Never.

3 or so dates
I take her back
we lay down some tracks
the rhythm of
Love
mixes and develops
parts pleasure
and pain -
it hold the suspension
yet the measure -
will never sustain

it resolves with 1
past my lust
with who I thrust...trust?
The tonic.
Isn't it Ironic?

A year ago, we shared keys
2 b flat
Intertwined and carefree
but once I moved past that
particular flavor
I tuned up - went major
One sharp
I'm that G
It's about me

And on to the next beat
With a new band
Until that love
goes sour or bland
Because
I want a
"Lost in Translation"
kinda feeling -
A fresh situation
unknown and appealing
One where she
can be free
with me
in five minutes of a
song or
whatever
But Forever?

Known for spinning hip-hop, R&B, Top 40 and club, Charma has dominated the dance floor at top clubs across the US, energized fans at major sports events, and captivated global audiences through radio.

Since 2009, Charma has carved out a legacy in the entertainment industry as a talented DJ and tastemaker who cultivates meaningful connections through music. Major artists he has supported include Diplo, Xzibit, Cardi B, Ciara, Macklemore, G-Eazy, Jack Harlow and Trey Songz. Charma’s commercial portfolio includes work for brands like NFL, Adidas, Nike, Lyft, Microsoft and NBC, to name a few.

Charma’s love for music blossomed in childhood: his father would always play music in the car and his sister would lend him the latest CDs. He began making mixtapes in high school, and by the time he was in college, his mixtapes were in hot demand. Encouraged to pursue DJing, Charma met a mentor who showed him how to play sets at nightclubs. He bought his first decks, and the rest was history.

Charma’s passion for storytelling inspired him to start hosting his own podcast, ‘More Than A DJ’, to share his own story and discover the journeys of other people. All The Cookies You Should Make This Holiday | Easy Cookie Decorating With Hello Robin

Cookies in the morning, cookies late at night. Cookies all day, here take another bite! Join AMAS and Hello Robin as they give you holiday baking secrets everyone should know. So whether you’re shipping them off with love, setting them on a plate for Santa, or just saving them for yourself, AMAS and Hello Robin have you covered.

The Origin Of Hello Robin

It all started in 2013 with a text message from Molly Moon’s husband Zack to Robin Wehl Martin:

Zack: Hey Robin, it's zack.  I need a small favor, if you don't mind.

Robin: Sure.

Zack: There is a small space left in the new building on 19th. I need you to open a bakery there. Agreed?

Robin: Omg!  Yes!!  Does it also sell ice cream?

Zack: Molly’s into it if you are.

And thus a delectable partnership was born. And seven years later Hello Robin is still using Molly Moon's ice cream for their ice cream sandwiches.

In the years prior to this, Robin had built a reputation on Capitol Hill for delicious baked goods. She won Best Classic Whoopie Pie two years running at the Oddfellows Whoopie Pie Bake-off. (The next year they gave up and made her a judge.) She won top honors for “Overall Awesomeness” at the City Arts Pie Life competition and 1st place at the Crossroads Farmer’s Market bake off and had done baking stints at various Seattle restaurants. And that's when Robin's baked goods got on Molly's radar.

It was the cookies that first got Molly’s attention. Molly and Zack had given Robin and Clay (her husband) and three kids their chickens (Faye, Ida, Bambi and Levina) and as a thank you, Robin used the eggs to make delicious cookies she would occasionally leave on Molly and Zack's doorstep. Molly and Zack became addicted and realized they needed to strategize a way to gain access to those baked goods on a daily basis. Hence, the text message that started this story.

At this same time, the demand for Robin’s cookies for school fund-raisers, bar mitzvahs and neighbors with an overly active sweet tooth had become too much for one residential kitchen and with the nudge from Molly, Robin and Clay gave in to popular demand and made the leap from home kitchen to retail storefront on the east side of Capitol Hill at the end of 2013.

And even since then, Hello Robin has been devoted to providing delicious and ambitious cookies every day, including the signature "Mackles'more" that combines a graham cracker, a s'more cookie and a Theo chocolate chunk. Molly Moon's to-go pints are also available in the shop and her ice cream flavors are featured in the custom ice cream sandwiches that are the biggest draw every evening during dessert rush hour.

About a dozen cookies flavors are featured each day. In addition to the basic staples such as Classic Chocolate Chip, Brown Butter Snickerdoodle and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip with Tart Cherry, there's also a selection geared toward a more mature palate, including Orange, Habanero Chocolate Chip, and other varieties your mother probably never ventured into. And, yes, there is always a gluten-free and vegan option.

Since 2013 Hello Robin has been a Capitol Hill favorite and a go-to destination for those seeking the best in cookies and ice cream sandwiches. In Seattle Magazine's 2017 and 2018 Readers' Choice awards Hello Robin was voted "Best Cookies" in Seattle.

And now, after more than 6 years of operation, Hello Robin has started another chapter, which is a second shop that opened in the Northwest corner of University Village in the fall of 2020!

Robin’s Sugar Cookies

Makes about 4 dozen

12 ounces salted butter

1  1/3 cups sugar

4 egg yolks

4 cups flour

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar.

2. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each.

3. Add flour 1 cup at a time. Mix until dough forms a ball, cleaning the bottom of the bowl. Don’t overmix.

4. Roll dough to a thickness of ¼-inch, and cut in desired shapes. Put cookies on parchment-lined baking sheet. To keep the shapes, chill for at least 30 minutes, or wrap and freeze for up to two days.

5. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Brush each cookie with cream, and top with sprinkles or sugar crystals.

6. Bake on center rack for 10 minutes or until edges just begin to brown (although there’s nothing wrong with an undercooked sugar cookie).

The Empress Gin Cocktail You’re Missing Out On - Kansas City Ice Water Cocktail Recipe

Sponsored By Empress Gin

“I love water, especially when it's frozen and surrounded by gin.”

Join AMAS resident bartender - Fabrizzio - as he prepares this refreshing Empress Gin cocktail for those hot summer days: Kansas City Ice Water.

"When life gives you lemons, add Gin." - Anon

As summertime gets in full swing, please take a moment to enjoy all the beautiful sights and smells of the season. The distinct colors of summer -and the fantastic aromas associated with it - always pair well with remarkable memories and fresh beginnings. With this in mind, it only made sense for me to blend some Empress 1908 Gin, a few fixins and mixers, with a dash of creativity to my AMAS craft cocktail. Why Empress 1908? Micro-distilled in small batch copper-pot stills, Empress 1908 is handcrafted using eight carefully selected botanicals. This Gin is delicious, perfect for cocktails, and easily recognizable by its iconic indigo hue. The deep indigo color changes to bright lavender, soft pink, or fuchsia depending on the mixer, adding to the rich sensory experience of enjoying your cocktail. So live life to the fullest, take in the sights, sounds, and smells of summer, and make the most of it.

When life gives you lemons? Add Empress 1908.

The Best of Times...

Love is Transcendent. Otherworldly. Enduring. Everlasting.

"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." ― Dr. Seuss

To have and to hold; to be held by another and wholly accepted is a rarified space to be in. I'm sure you will agree, having a significant other by your side is the most exuberant feeling a man (or woman) can experience in their lifetime. Regarding love, most folks often say (by the way, I despise cliches) that she finds you when you least expect it. Romance is a funny gal; she flirts with chance and dances with surprise. Some couples come together for their shared characteristics and similarities. Other pairings attract like magnets with intense polarities because of diverging histories and personality differences. Though the flavors may be varied, the critical ingredients often remain intact: patience, kindness, fidelity, and unity. These components (along with a dash of curiosity) forge an unseen tether—the spiritual, mental, and sexual bond which is as old as time itself.

Love

"Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you've never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can't wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy, or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are." - Bob Marley

Love is Greater

IWM_1903-1.jpg

The Worst of Times

Adapt or Die. Growth is Transcendent. Live. Love. Learn.

"The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone." - Henrik Ibsen

There is a trade-off rarely mentioned in Disney films. A truth often found slightly beyond the raging hormones of adolescence: Love hurts.

It hurts deep. It hurts bad. Lost love is an enduring burn because it doesn't play out the way you would have wanted. Fate can be a fickle mistress. When things were good? They were great! When they are abysmal? That's a whole different story. Have you ever noticed that Disney deliberately fades The Little Mermaid out before her first argument with Prince Charming can hit the screen? Yeah. Movies... am I right? You know how it goes. In that fake, 2D world, they all live "Happily Ever After." In our 3D reality, there IS a "thingamabob" you will struggle to comprehend, and it's called "passive-aggressiveness."

Once the honeymoon phase wears off, those cute smiles and coy winks give way to rolled eyes and defiant glances. Then (months later), when enough is enough, and you're both nearing the expiration date? Someone whips out an intractable statement, feelings are severely damaged, and the writing magically appears on the wall. In time, the perfect insta-couple will split up, you will break down, and you both simultaneously play the roles of victor and victim to your poor friends (while swiping left and right furiously at 2am). This part really, really sucks.

Unfortunately, we aren't finished. What comes next? Lonely nights. A good cry. Solitude. Extended time alone.

It isn't easy going from a duet to a solo, but it is necessary for the trade-off to lock-in. At this point, you may be wondering, "what is this trade-off you keep mentioning, AMAS?" Oh, my bad. The trade-off is personal growth. Inner strength. Wisdom (see Eccl 1:18).

With your love lost, life may seem a bit bland...flavorless, but it's only temporary. I assure you, this is the time for your personal metamorphosis. To gain. To learn. To grow.

"The best thing for being sad...is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then---to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the thing for you. Look at what a lot of things there are to learn." - T.H. White, The Once and Future King

Growth is Greater

How to survive solo travel - Things to know about solo travel

This post was sponsored by Cabana.

"Investment in Travel is an investment in yourself." - Matthew Karsten

Typically when I think about traveling somewhere, I have another companion in mind. Whether it be a college bud, my cousin, or a significant other, most of my travel stories often have a companion or two mixed in. What am I getting at? Evolution. Something new. Leaning into an adventure. As a student of fashion, I know first hand that art and life often converge and provide ample opportunities to notice where the lines intersect. In fashion, we appreciate change. As each season brings in new styles and old callbacks (here's looking at you, summer dresses), I decided to mix it up: AMAS traveled solo.

"Alone" and "Lonely" aren't the same thing
Solo travel tips put a premium on people mixing, but this can be fruitless—you chose to travel alone after all. On the flip side, big groups rarely have time for solo activities; you won't have this issue, so, Carpe Omnia!

Measure Expectations
Everyone wants the perfect start to their vacation in which everything continues to run smoothly. Be sure to pace yourself and breathe slowly through the tense (and unexpected) moments.

Hostel, Hotels...Cabana?
Smart, Simple, Safe, and Reliable. These are a few of the core values at Cabana. In this video, AMAS takes the new Cabana van for a spin instead of other familiar travel pursuits. Ditch the hostel, run from the hotel, and hop in the van, man.

Manage your Cash, watch your stash
Broke is a hell of a lousy joke when out and about, but even more so when traveling solo. Transient tactics aren't going to cut it in unfamiliar territory. As a solo traveler, do not get accustomed to freebies with no one to watch your back. Also, always have money available to you or don't go at all! It is far safer to be bored at home than stuck on the road with only a dime on your person.

iOs or Android approved
When perusing the attractions or any place that requires patiently waiting, use your phone to book reservations or grab tickets in advance. Doing so will optimize your time when traveling by yourself.

In conclusion, traveling solo has its pros and cons. Pros: solo travel gives you the ultimate freedom, and "doing nothing on vacation" is acceptable. Cons: certain situations will still go wrong (which is typical for any trip). You cannot expect everything to go according to plan. The difference is you are more comfortable traveling by yourself. I want to say a special thank you to Cabana for letting me use one of their vans. Until next time, stay safe and happy trails.
