Crusin' with MB Seattle: The Best Or Nothing

Beauty, sophistication, elegance. Three concepts we relish, admire and invest bandwidth toward. For your consideration, I'd love to throw one more into the mix: satisfaction. When we add delight to the recipe, life seems a bit lighter; days seem a bit brighter, and harmony feels attainable.

During this chill photoshoot - led by my boy ILL WILL MEDIA - the good people at Mercedes-Benz of Seattle had us work with two excellent vehicles: the GLC43 AMG and the A220.

7N4A9189-1.jpg

While bold looks and advanced tech on the whips are captivating, excellent customer service from these folks is the proverbial "cherry on top." The dealership made me feel appreciated, attended to, and fulfilled. Like attracts like is a great saying, and as I never cut corners with my style, they took the same approach.

A sunny day in Seattle is a rarifying and marvelous thing. Spending this time handling luxurious vehicles while cruising around my neighborhood laughing with Portia (from girlfriendgetaway) made me think of happier times and had me feeling grateful.

Portia (who is downright hilarious) also shared her gladness with the candor and professionalism Mercedes-Benz of Seattle provided. It was a win-win-win, and I'd love to work with them again in the near future (fingers crossed).

Simply put, the right people, in the right situations with the right vehicles, can produce amazing results. Mercedes Monday was dope, Benz Wednesday was fantastic, and I wish you the MB experience soon (no matter what day of the week). So if you're ever around the Greater Seattle area, head over to Mercedes-Benz of Seattle for their award-winning customer service, and let 'em know AMAS sent ya.

The Best of Times...

Love is Transcendent. Otherworldly. Enduring. Everlasting.

"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." ― Dr. Seuss

To have and to hold; to be held by another and wholly accepted is a rarified space to be in. I'm sure you will agree, having a significant other by your side is the most exuberant feeling a man (or woman) can experience in their lifetime. Regarding love, most folks often say (by the way, I despise cliches) that she finds you when you least expect it. Romance is a funny gal; she flirts with chance and dances with surprise. Some couples come together for their shared characteristics and similarities. Other pairings attract like magnets with intense polarities because of diverging histories and personality differences. Though the flavors may be varied, the critical ingredients often remain intact: patience, kindness, fidelity, and unity. These components (along with a dash of curiosity) forge an unseen tether—the spiritual, mental, and sexual bond which is as old as time itself.

Love

"Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you've never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can't wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy, or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are." - Bob Marley

Love is Greater

The Worst of Times

Adapt or Die. Growth is Transcendent. Live. Love. Learn.

"The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone." - Henrik Ibsen

There is a trade-off rarely mentioned in Disney films. A truth often found slightly beyond the raging hormones of adolescence: Love hurts.

It hurts deep. It hurts bad. Lost love is an enduring burn because it doesn't play out the way you would have wanted. Fate can be a fickle mistress. When things were good? They were great! When they are abysmal? That's a whole different story. Have you ever noticed that Disney deliberately fades The Little Mermaid out before her first argument with Prince Charming can hit the screen? Yeah. Movies... am I right? You know how it goes. In that fake, 2D world, they all live "Happily Ever After." In our 3D reality, there IS a "thingamabob" you will struggle to comprehend, and it's called "passive-aggressiveness."

Once the honeymoon phase wears off, those cute smiles and coy winks give way to rolled eyes and defiant glances. Then (months later), when enough is enough, and you're both nearing the expiration date? Someone whips out an intractable statement, feelings are severely damaged, and the writing magically appears on the wall. In time, the perfect insta-couple will split up, you will break down, and you both simultaneously play the roles of victor and victim to your poor friends (while swiping left and right furiously at 2am). This part really, really sucks.

Unfortunately, we aren't finished. What comes next? Lonely nights. A good cry. Solitude. Extended time alone.

It isn't easy going from a duet to a solo, but it is necessary for the trade-off to lock-in. At this point, you may be wondering, "what is this trade-off you keep mentioning, AMAS?" Oh, my bad. The trade-off is personal growth. Inner strength. Wisdom (see Eccl 1:18).

With your love lost, life may seem a bit bland...flavorless, but it's only temporary. I assure you, this is the time for your personal metamorphosis. To gain. To learn. To grow.

"The best thing for being sad...is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then---to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the thing for you. Look at what a lot of things there are to learn." - T.H. White, The Once and Future King

Surviving the office party | What Not To Do At Your Company's Holiday Party

Did you end up fondling a lampshade at last years holiday party? Here is how to have a normal night out with peers or without being professionally destructive.

  1. Eat, drink and be merry—in moderation

If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Otherwise, you might say or do something you will later regret. This can get you into trouble or alter someone’s favorable opinion of you. This same rule applies to canna-bus. Moral of the story is when it comes to your substance of choice don’t let it corse you into a behavior you’re not proud of.

  2. Food

Enjoy the food at the party, but avoid looking like a glutton. The size of the hors d’oeuvre plates will give you an indication of the amount you are expected to eat and never double dip! Remember that the reason for the party is human to human connection. So try to keep your right hand free. If you are wearing a name tag wear it on the right side. This insures that your name is easy to read on the right side from left to right when shaking hands.

  3. Dress Appropriately

Although the holiday party is a time to have fun and socialize with your colleagues, it doesn't mean you forsake professionalism. Business attire is still expected, but you can add some flair. For your casual office gatherings a fair isle sweater with slacks or chinos is probably all you need. For larger company parties or fundraisers follow the dress code since a tux or suit may be required. Whatever you do don’t be the guy in an ugly sweater suit!

  4. Gifts

Some parties involve a gift exchange. Stay in the price range recommended. Avoid purchasing anything risqué or personal. Remember that this is an office party and not a bunch of your frat brothers getting together.

  5. Introduce your self

Your company party may be the only time you see the president, CEO or VPs in person. This is a great opportunity to become visible to your organization's higher-ups. Approach them with a smile, introduce yourself if they don’t already know your name, and keep the conversation short. You want to be friendly, but you don’t want to keep them from talking to others. Don’t use this as an opportunity to complain about your job, your coworkers, or the company.

  6. PHOTO ETIQUETTE

Before you start doing it for the gram and snapping candid shots of your coworkers having fun, make sure you have their permission. Avoid poses that can embarrass them land you later. It's fine to take selfies with your office friends as long as the other people agree. Never post anything on social media without asking everyone in the picture first. You should always respect people’s privacy.

  7. Know when to arrive and when to leave

Most of the time, showing up about fifteen minutes after the party starts is ideal, unless it’s a sit-down dinner with a designated time to be served. If so show up on time. No one likes squatters so as soon as you see the event starting to wind down, it is time to make an exit. Look for signs that it’s time to go, such as the host picking up glasses or retrieving the guests’ coats.

I started this blog 2 years ago to mainly talk style, and I've learned in that time that actually, I can have more of an impact and connect with others through my stories. My life has not been perfect. I've made some huge, monumental mistakes, and had to learn things the hard way at times. I've also had many successes and a whole lot of fun, so that's why I've decided to shift gears a bit and focus more on stories and style together. I want to share my genuine raw experiences in hopes that they will enable me to connect, learn, and grow with you guys!
